comes from Richmond, VA to bring the world insanely good post-hardcore, the likes of which has not been seen since the 90s. Tight little breakdowns separate grungy-er instrumentals, and the best vocals ever from none other than Valient Himself of Valient Thorr. Legend has it that the Brief Lives dudes were looking for a singer, and Mr. Valient was looking for a band to jam with via craigslist. The rest is history: melodic elements clash superbly with atmosphere and heavy metal hardcore with a pinch of old punk to create Brief Lives' current incarnation. The aggressively handsome bearded Valient and the young men of Brief Lives merged as one super band, using their diverse set of influences to create a sound that Fugazi worshipers, wrestling fans, and Doctor Who geeks will all love. Valient Himself clutches the mic and wails like the heavy metal god he is, while his trusty trio (Chris Compton, Patrick Dewit, Aaron Boles) lay down a dark, intricate, and everchanging set of tunes (think early And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead meets classic DC Hardcore). It's definitely a different, and perhaps more captivating, outlet for Valient's energy and creativity -- and he's definitely a different, dare I say more appropriate, singer for the band. Gonna chalk this up to divine intervention from some musical guardian angel who happened to be guarding over Richmond's craigslist on that fateful day. Live, be prepared to burst some ear drums, groove to some hardcore jams and melodies, and let the energy of Brief Lives take you to another level of awesome.
