: Back in the day, seeing the Locust was a rite of passage (and hey, it probably still is). But for all those people who were too scared to venture into an all ages club, here's your chance to harness some of that badass energy with a bar safely within reach. Justin Pearson's side-project, Retox, is an Epitaph-approved punk band with a penchant for noise. Oddball time signatures, loud and dirty rhythms, rowdy minute long musical musings, and a ne'er-do-well ethos makes Retox the flag bearer of hardcore noise. Pearson's political spirit is unchecked, and his brand of hardcore lets him unleash mercilessly upon the crowd sans bass. For a dude who is in so many different kinds of bands (power-violence, hardcore punk, grindcore, noise, etc), it's hard to believe that each one can be better than the next -- with Retox taking top honors. Pearson wails into his mic, spazzing out and doubling over at the waist, headbanging with impunity, only to end up in a near back bend. There's never a dull moment when Retox plays a set -- songs come in quick bursts, with powerful playing from every corner of the stage. Blazing guitar riffs, pounding drums, and sick bass only goes to show that Dead Kennedy's style punk, hardcore, and noise can combine chaotically to form a whole new (crazy) animal.
