Bootie LA resident DJ, Shyboy
, has been creating his debut album for three years, crafting it with producer Nubar and co-writing it with a collection of new and established songwriters, and it was just recently released to the world. Now, Shyboy is debuting the album at Bootie SF ... by mashing it up, with live vocals! His evocative lyrics express a longing for escape beyond the confines of the mundane, and the first single from the album, "Bird in Flight," has already been called "a quietly building, gently swinging, electro-dreampop soundscape."
Joining him in the night's celebrations will be resident DJs Adrian, and opening DJ Dada
, as they spin the best mashups in the world. At 11 PM, live mashup rock band Smash-Up Derby
takes to the stage, with Shyboy joining them for a special guest vocal. Upstairs in the Lounge, it's the return of super-popular monthly residency Ya Mamma's Basement, with Myster C
and Mr. Washington
spinning hip-hop and R&B to get your groove on. And in the Loft, it's a special all-night set from legendary house music DJ Blackstone, who started DJing in 1987, and is best known for keeping house music alive in the Castro with his unforgettable dark and sexy mixes at the much-missed Detour.
Launched in 2003 by San Francisco DJ duo A Plus D, Bootie was the first club night dedicated solely to the then-burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup -- and is now the biggest mashup event in the world, with regular parties in several cities on four continents. Voted "Best Club Night" for the past eight years, Bootie celebrates pop culture both past and present, keeping your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations. Mixing and matching every musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party, it's a place where everyone is welcome. And with free mashup CDs given away like candy, Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation.
