Wherein the antivaxxers are still trying to make this nightmare last as long as possible for all of us.

We had a show booked for next week with Flotsam and Jetsam, Suburban Paranoia and Rage of War, and then we learn that several members of Flotsam and Jetsam are unvaccinated. That's right, they are on tour, traveling through who-knows-what COVID-19 hotspot hellholes, and they're not vaccinated.

But wait, the story gets stupider.

We ask their agent, "So, are they planning on getting vaccinated?" He says he's not sure. Which means we can't even reschedule the show for a later date when they have their shit together, we have to just cancel. Great.

So then after cancelling, we also learn that one of the members of Suburban Paranoia was unvaccinated "because his doctor recommended against it". Uh huh.

Meanwhile, support act Rage of War was talking shit about their own show on Facebook, saying that our vax policy was going to "kill the turnout" and that "at least people will 'feel' safe..... right lmfao"

And then...

Wait for it...

Now one of the members of Rage of War has been hospitalized with COVID-19.

In the Before Times I probably would have been feeling some kind of schadenfreude about this, but I don't. It's just tragic and sad and stupid and completely avoidable and I want it to stop!

If you want to feel terrible about the state of the world, just read the comments on this Blabbermouth article about the cancellation. Apparently it's a "poison jab" and we're "commie libturds" when we're not "nazis". Good to know that that the metal community still has that same old MAGA problem. Good job everybody.

We have another metal show coming up tomorrow, with Lich King, and as far as I know, everyone involved is vaccinated. So, fingers crossed on that. But that's only after we had to kick Helsott off of that bill for being unvaccinated. They tell us that their name means "Fatal Illness" in Old Norse, and while I appreciate their commitment to the bit -- guys, you're taking it too far.

By the way, before you comment here telling me to "do my own research" about drinking bleach or whatever, let me remind you that as of yesterday it is the law that all customers, performers and staff be vaccinated.

That had already been our policy for some time. It just took the law a while to catch up. But at least now I get to stop arguing about it.

The best part are the online arguments about how the lockdowns in NZ restrict freedom, and diatribes about how if you follow the science, masks obviously don't work.

The words "I can't even" come to mind.

I have friends in New Zealand and Australia. 95% of the time they have been perfectly free to go about their business as usual.

Meanwhile a friend was hospitalized in Florida due to neurological symptoms that turned out to be a benign tumor. She sat in the waiting room at the hospital for 8 hours. Next to her was a man with chest pains and a woman with a broken leg. They were there first and still there when they took her back.

In the socialist hell hole that is New Zealand and San Francisco she and the others would have been seen immediately.

      Some freedom

So far beyond "I can't even" at this point. BIL is big MAGA / Plandemic retard. Discussions with them is mainly me responding with "yah" a lot.

    badass post

I was actually thinking of that old 2018 blog post halfway through reading this one; glad you linked to it here. All the toxic comments beneath it were essentially cut-and-pasted for the ones whining about the cancellation.

Anyway, UCSF docs think SF might be "turn[ing] a corner" on Delta, so cancelling those un-vaxxed bands makes the possibility going to Cyberdelia all the more real.

I'm soo sorry for all the bullshit you have to deal with, I can feel the frustration in every word. Just wanted to say a big thank you from somebody who has spent his last 28 years loving live shows like few things in life. Your dedication to taking the right road, not the easy one, is very much appreciated. Thank you, thank thank you, so fucking much.

Right now there is probably not enough international travel to worry about the scenario, but have you already given a thought how to deal with people showing up with European vaccination certificates? I assume our QR codes are not compatible with the Californian ones…

    • Louis says:

The scanners for the EU certificates are available on the app stores, and are hopefully not region-locked. Hopefully them (the governments) saying the QR codes have digital signatures that the scanner can verify is good enough.

Great post and I love how the DNA has been ahead of the curve on covid the entire time. It’s so frustrating that bands are on the road unvaccinated. Its so irresponsible. I’ve been a fan of F&J for over 30 years but I will never support them again.

  8. Hog says:

    This is metal.

  9. Bob Ippolito says:

Thank you for doing the right thing (for society) here (and for the whole pandemic). I’m sure it’s frustrating!

Maybe it’s time to rebrand one of the rooms as the mRNA Lounge?

OK thanks for that, it made me laugh.

+1 to the policy -- you're doing the right thing, history will judge kindly, side of angels yada yada yada.

    Godspeed, Jamie

Tangent about customer bullshit: Mom owns and runs a tavern in rural Denmark, where lockdowns are very slowly being lifted. It's still law for her to require negative tests / vaccination, but some idiots thinks she's just making up her own rules, because they heard that restrictions are being lifted. Not helped that some other places are breaking the law by not checking. Because yeah, she just loves turning away customers (e.i. very much needed profit), when they "forget" their test results.

Kudos for every bit of this!

Just FYI, it appears the two posts on the Rage of War FB page that you mentioned ("talking shit about their own show," member hostpitalized due to covid) appear to have been removed.

Also, the "About" section of their FB page implies that they have their own web site at http://rageofwarmetal.com. But clicking on the link reveals not only that no such web site exists, but that the domain is not even registered.

It would be tragic --- tragic, I say -- if someone came along and bought up the domain before they had a chance to do it.

  16. You and your team are AMAZING. Thank you for hosting the Lich King show and having such a kick ass event. It was an honor!
