Bootie presents the return of LA's own
DJ Axel. While playing with live breakbeat and drum & bass bands in London and San Francisco, Axel picked up the art of DJing, and after moving to Los Angeles, released a 15-track mashup album called "Breakin' The Law." The album is available in over 100 stores and recently went "street platinum," defined by Billboard as sales of over 10,000 units of an unlicensed mixtape. Axel's original songs and remixes have appeared in films and soundtracks such as "17 Again" and "Two Lovers."
Also on the main floor decks will be
DJ Tripp and
John!John!, holding it down while residents A+D are in Hong Kong. At 11 PM, Bootie's own house band
Smash-Up Derby hits the stage, with lead singer Mimi Lee Ferrari rockin' it out solo with the band.
Suppositori Spelling returns to the stage for the infamous Midnight Mashup Show, and in the upstairs room, Electro-Bootie presents Future Universal DJs
Matt Haegan,
Pete, and
KidHack.
Launched in 2003 in San Francisco by DJs Adrian & Mysterious D, Bootie was the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup -- and is now the biggest mashup event in the world, with regular parties in several cities on four continents. Keeping your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations, Bootie mixes and matches every conceivable musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party where everyone feels welcome, providing the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation ... and free mashup CDs, given away like candy!
