Kylesa formed in Savannah, GA in 2001, taking their unusual name from "kilesa mara," what Buddhist teachings term demons of defilement and delusion. Kylesa is, fundamentally, a metal group, but is otherwise difficult to categorize: elements of hardcore punk, psychedelic stoner rock, technical speed metal, and good old-fashioned Black Sabbath sludge appear in their music. Also, with a front line consisting of three very different singers instead of a single focal point, and two drummers, Kylesa has a musical variety lacking from many of their more monochromatic peers.

"It's all a very long way from the 1980s rash of post-punk, proto syndicalist agit-pop, but New Model Army have prevailed. As dedicated as ever to their craft of melodic rock with something to say, front man Justin Sullivan has wrapped his vocal chords around a dystopian wealth of words that invoke the twisted souls of Nick Cave and Henry Rollins at their best. The addition of blues guitar master Marshall Gill has given the band greater musical scope." --Nick Churchill

Sacre bleu! It's the French Revolution all over again! Direct from France, Bootie Paris returns to San Francisco, taking over the upstairs room, and spinning a couple sets on the main floor as well. DJs Reno, ComaR, and Phatbastard have been the resident DJs of Bootie Paris for over two years, and know how to rock the party, French-style! Infamous French rapper Grandpamini will be also joining in on the fun, doing a guest rap with house band Smash-Up Derby, as well as performing the Midnight Mashup Show!

Launched in 2003 in San Francisco by DJs Adrian & the Mysterious D, Bootie was the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to the burgeoning artform of the bootleg mashup -- and is now the biggest mashup event in the world, with monthly parties in nine cities on three continents. Mixing and matching every conceivable musical genre, era, and style into one big dance party where everyone feels welcome, Bootie provides the soundtrack for the A.D.D. generation -- with free mashup CDs given away like candy!

Bootie's DJs and house band Smash-Up Derby, as well as guest mashup DJs from around the world, keep your brain guessing and body dancing with creative song combinations, celebrating -- and satirizing -- the many different forms of music. Imagine if the Kinks, the Ventures, Stray Cats and Devo were galactic pioneers, and joined forces to defend earth's right to 'rocket roll'. Combine that with a fast driving blend of punk, pop, psychobilly, solid songwriting and a witty Sci-Fi theme, and you've got one of the east bay's most celebrated bands, The Phenomenauts.

A critical part of the Phenomenaut experience has always been their live show, during which the band proudly displays its evolving arsenal of homemade 'Phenoma-gadgets.' The Theramatic Helmerator, or 'top of JoeBot's head,' contains a wireless theramin that creates Sci-Fi sounds reminiscent of old Star Trek episodes; the Streamerator 2000, manned by Professor Greg Arius, blasts rolls of toilet paper out into the crowd, bringing them in as part of the show; clouds of CO2 envelop the crowd while rockets launch from the Rocketerator. These cleverly crafted devices immensely add to the mystique and cult appeal of the band and are just some of the gems one can expect in the live spectacle.

"Covenant is one of the top names in the electro underground. There are very few electro clubs in the United States that do not feature tracks from Covenant in their weekly rotation. Covenant is one of the most addictive dance acts today, but what makes them special is the undefinable charisma and presence that the band brings to their discs and stage show, much like Bauhaus brought to the gothic scene in the 80s. Covenant have, in a surprisingly short period of time, launched themselves into the stratosphere of electro music, having risen high above the heads of other bands with similar interests and musical bents. They have done this through consistently high quality compositions, excellent musicianship, and by continually taking their music on the road and letting all of North America hear and see what they are about."

Spinning a rare feature set on the main floor, "mashup genius" DJ Earworm has become THE "go-to" mashup producer for record labels, having produced officially-sanctioned tracks for such artists as Annie Lennox, Sean Kingston, and Maroon 5. And as the author of "Audio Mashup Construction Kit," it's no exaggeration to say that "DJ Earworm wrote the book on mashups!" In the upstairs room, DJ Matt Hite is the special guest at Electro-Bootie, our monthly "club-within-a-club" specializing in electro bootlegs, remixes, and covers. And for the Midnight Mashup Show, sexy burlesque star Honey Lawless performs as Cookie Monster, doing a twisted rendition of "Rehab."

"Combichrist have established themselves as one of the biggest names in the aggrotech/dark electro music scene and all of their albums have reached a cult status among fans. It is no wonder Andy LaPlegua has been named one of the alternative electro geniuses of the decade as he has three quite very successful projects, managing to keep them stylistically separate without conflict of ideas. To this end, Andy set out to take all the core elements of their sound - which he describes as "a journey through hell and high water, through the eyes of a serial killer, sex, violence and plenty of Jack Daniels on ice" - and crank them up to 11. In more straightforward terms, it meant ramping up distortion into the stratosphere, deepening the already gut-busting sub-bass, and expanding their once tightly-compressed synth environments to create a broader, more epic sound."
