Successful Whore
presents HIRAX |
Special Sunday matinee show! Performing live: |
Hirax began in Los Angeles in 1984, but because of the weak metal scene in their area, they spent most of their time playing in San Francisco along with Slayer, Metallica, and Exodus, who were all part of the exciting new metal emerging from the Bay area. They released a four-song demo in 1984. Their songs at the time were more similar to the metal bands such as Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and the New Wave of British Heavy Metal period. This demo was widely circulated and the band became known and respected worldwide through the metal tape trading underground. Influenced by such great acts as Motorhead, Anvil, and Venom, the band went in a heavier and faster direction musically; and Hirax's thrash metal style was born.

Elevatordown presents HEX RX |
Performing live: Hex Rx
(Featuring Roger Jarvis of Kevorkian Death Cycle) With DJs: |
While the cult act Kevorkian Death Cycle is still more or less in the fridge, the band's main member Roger Jarvis started a new project, Hex Rx, with Taury Goforth of Kill Switch. KDC fans will notice instantly the difference of Taury's vocals and that of KDC's Ryan which are playing in two different sonic leagues. On a track like "Dominate" (a feast for the clubear) you are literally thrown the band's vocals straight in your face. Industrial hard rhytms, scissorlike synths and a harsh production make this sound like a KDC on adrenaline, lots of it and in heavy doped portions. Without any doubt Jarvis has with Taury Goforth found a vocalist who can evoke such an atmosphere just by the very gutted way his vocal chords are treated, I guess they inspired Jarvis as well to turn his songs much more straightforward and to the point. Clubfood for the younger and older generation who might also re-discover the KDC legacy.

"Best Body Slams:
The folks at Fog City Wrestling want you to watch a luchador
slam a Tom Cruise impersonator into the floor. They want you
to see a Samoan take-down team (combined weight: 1,100 pounds)
take on the "Reno Punks" in a swirling, convoluted drama of
independent pro-wrasslin'. Sweaty, in-your-face, "maybe knock
you over if you're in the front row" wrestling has come back
to San Francisco after what promoters Caesar Black and Steve
Armani claim has been a 30-year absence. Fog City's shows are
packed with so many acts, highlights, and subplots that things
get raucously confusing. With a full-size ring and
professional sound and lights, it brings a high level of
showmanship with a big ol' plate of athleticism on the
side. Wrestlers like Rikishi, the Mexican Werewolf, and Mister
Primetime pull big-show moves -- flying back flips, body slams,
and pile drivers -- just like them whut you see on the tee-vee."
