THE CATARACS |
Performing live:
The Cataracs |
The Cataracs are David Singer-Vine, 20 aka "Campa," and Niles Hollowell-Dhar, 19, "Cyrano". Both members share vocalist duties with Cyrano acting as the sole producer. The pair have developed a electro pop sound that combines the dancefloor sensibilities of electronic music with pop melodies, a risque edge, and East Bay swagger. These divergent sounds are effectively cohesive when brought together by The Cataracs' energy, sense of humor, and undeniably entertaining chemistry.

Death Guild
presents BABYLAND |
Performing live: Babyland With DJ: |
Babyland embodies the integration of electronic music with the
direct approach of hardcore and the intensity of junk noise.
Compositions are conceptually based on the extreme emotional
elements of humankind as reflected in our continual evolution
and search for meaning within our own existence. Throughout the years, elements of synth pop, hardcore punk rock, new wave, techno, drum & bass and noise have all fallen prey to Babyland's continual experimentation. They utilize machinery twisted through misuse and human error to aggressively address the audience with empathy and concern; The electronic elements and primitive rhythmic base of the music provides an intense clarity and opposition to the resulting confusion and noise. The stronghold of Babyland's existence has always been intense live performances which confront audiences with an honest celebration of extreme energy, harsh sonic and visual elements, and experimental destruction. In other words, they take themselves way too seriously. |

Death Guild &
DNA Lounge present CRÜXSHADOWS |
Performing live: With DJs: |
One of the most popular Darkwave bands internationally, Crüxshadows started in the early 1990s in a little town in North Florida. Over the last 15 years their success among the gothic, ebm, new wave, and dark electronic genres has earned them a near legendary underground status. The band's dark electronic rock and introspective lyrics quickly earned them a fan base beyond the US, particularly in Europe. With a constant and ambitious release schedule and a dizzying live performance itinerary, they have turned conventional wisdom on it's ear and maintained their position among the scene's elite from each year to the next.

DNA Lounge &
Death Guild
present ATTRITION |
Performing live: With DJ Decay (Affliction / Death Guild) |
Inside a cage of sound, writhes a human soul. Cold waves of
electronics are juxtaposed against voices that seep through
cracks in the walls of machinery and wires. Lyrics dart out in
bullets from soundscapes peppered in sharp vocals and sound
bites. A viola plays in the distance, giving life to this
inorganic mass... Such is the imagery that spawns Attrition, who, with its marriage of the classic and modern, has brought to music the equivalent of a surrealist painting. From its earlier sparse and stark soundscapes, to a more expansive palette of orchestral work, Attrition has successfully melded several genres into one. The music flows -- from gothic to industrial to experimental to classical -- so smoothly, they might as well be making their own category. With more than twelve albums of constant variety, and an ever-expanding sound, they remain one of music's darker and fascinating lights. |

Whore for Satan
presents WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM black metal. doors @ 8pm; $12 advance; |
Performing live: | Hailing from deep in the country just outside of Olympia, WA, Wolves in the Throne Room are brothers Nathan (guitar vocals) and Aaron Weaver (drums) and Rick Dahlin (guitar) and the bay area's own Ross Sewage (Impaled, Ludicra) as touring bassist. The Wolves' music is rooted in the traditions of Black Metal, but they subvert the common aesthetic and ideology in order to remain true to their own personal manifestations. Their strong convictions appropriately compliment the confident decisive execution of their sound. This is the sound of paradox, ambiguity and confusion, Catharsis is the objective, not a lily-white and guilt free existence. Death and rebirth, transformation and enlightenment. They believe that in Black Metal, there is great truth, transcendence and power. The groups willingness to experiment with unconventional methods of recording and collaborate with avant-garde musicians sets them apart from the mundane normalcy that plagues many Black Metal bands albums as of late. This willingness to take chances and forge ahead with disregard of convention or boundaries makes them a perfect fit on the Southern Lord roster.

TECH N9NE |
Performing live: Tech N9ne Krizz Kaliko Kutt Calhoun Prozak Skatterman Snugg Brim |
The "Strictly Strange" tour! Rapidfire rhyme raider Tech N9ne invades DNA Lounge! His appearance and sound haven't fit major label expectations, forcing him to make his own way underground. The results have been groundbreaking. As the first rapper to have sold a million records independently, Tech N9ne is an anomaly in hip-hop. Decked out in all white including white face paint and a different word per show emblazed on his forehead, Tech, who in the past has sported orange spikes and a red Mohawk, is hip-hop's answer to KISS. He is notorious for his powerhouse stage shows, raw and intense. His style merges resonant high speed rhymes with bass laden rock rhythms. |

Future Universal presents |
Main Room: Patricia Furpurse (Club Neon, Portland) Tre Slim (Club Neon, Portland) Kid Hack (Super Ego) Mario Muse (Super Ego) Lounge: Fashion show at 10pm by: Performing live at 11pm: |
Every month, Super Ego features fashion shows, live bands, and
big name djs spinning the newest electronic dance music! Come
early for the fashion. Rock out to the sexy bands. Stay for
the dirty dancing. Buddy Akai has been making the high heeled, converse stomping, electro popping kiddies dance to their rocking beats since 2005. Their sound can be described as a mix of indie, electro and rock. Their mix of samples, sequences, arpegiated synths and processed vocals holds both a dance and rock influence. Their show is a must see, an electrifying and energetic experience. "Mix the sweet bass lines of Moving Units, add some of Faint inspired electro, and take a 80s inspired vocals, and you have BUDDY AKAI. They are one of the best live bands I have seen in a long time." -- fakerich.com |

FOG CITY WRESTLING 1:30pm - 5pm. $15. 2008 Best of the Bay winner: "Best Body Slams" Add this event to your calendar: · MySpace |
Main Room: Raven versus Alofa the Samoan Tank! |
"Best Body Slams: The folks at Fog City Wrestling want you to watch a luchador slam a Tom Cruise impersonator into the floor. They want you to see a Samoan take-down team (combined weight: 1,100 pounds) take on the "Reno Punks" in a swirling, convoluted drama of independent pro-wrasslin'. Sweaty, in-your-face, "maybe knock you over if you're in the front row" wrestling has come back to San Francisco after what promoters Caesar Black and Steve Armani claim has been a 30-year absence. Fog City's shows are packed with so many acts, highlights, and subplots that things get raucously confusing. With a full-size ring and professional sound and lights, it brings a high level of showmanship with a big ol' plate of athleticism on the side. Wrestlers like Rikishi, the Mexican Werewolf, and Mister Primetime pull big-show moves -- flying back flips, body slams, and pile drivers -- just like them whut you see on the tee-vee." -- SF Bay Guardian
