Join :CODE as we celebrate our last night at the DNA Lounge! It's been two rocking years, and we've had hundreds upon hundreds of different performers and acts show us their stuff. To celebrate our last night, we've got quite a show planned for y'all! We'll be having lots of local art on display and to top it off, as usual, a killer lineup for your earholes.

The folks responsible for helping us snag our Best of the Bay award, Scattershot Theory, are trekking down from Sacramento with Fruitbat and Dusty Brown in tow. These folks will be supported by SF's own local electro heroes: Cybrid.

Residents DJs Amber and Shank will be ripping up the dancefloors and rearranging your neurons with their own farewell sets, and the lounge is host to Sleeveless, SF, and their unbeatable flavor of drum 'n bass.

So come on out, and help us send :CODE off with a hearty bang! 100% musical goodness, or your money back!

"The label was something that just had to happen. I was working on music with friends at the time and we figured that our own label was the only way to go. It's the D.I.Y. punk rock attitude I learned early on - where if you want something it's pretty much up to you to make it happen. We really didn't even take in to account that it's possible to make money from this stuff - we were just doing it." - Matt Nee on Kompute Records, technounkmusic.com

Hesoshi's live PA performance for Imperial Dub at San Francisco's infamous Fillmore blew the proverbial house down and made him a household name overnight. Warm bubbling basslines, natty drums and ever-so-slightly acidic synths prevail throughout.

"Detroit Techno's Renaissance Man" DJ T-1000 from Chicago comes to code for our 2-year Anniversary blowout. Anyone who is familiar with Detroit techno knows the name Alan Oldham. Better known as DJ T-1000 with his own releases on Pure Sonik Records, Alan has been responsible for some of the Motor City's great tracks over the past several years.

:CODE resident Amber teams up once again with partner Dragn'fly to work four turntables with bleeding accuracy that looks like it must be rehearsed but is 100% improvised between these two talented DJs. :CODE resident Shank brings more original flavor with subtle soundwave manipulation through intricate crossfader slamming. A live PA from resident Praxis rounds out the night with our usual on-stage original electronic music.

Kill the Robots will be taking over the stage this week, bringing five people, lots of gear and making some great music.

"...innovative doesn't even begin to describe this San Francisco quintet. These visionaries hover almost weightlessly near the intersection of abstract and bizarre, a place sensible musicians try desperately to steer clear of for fear of falling into the black hole of noncommercialism and, often, consequent obscurity." - SF Examiner

Resident DJ Amber will be tearing up the main floor, as is the norm. Amber's discovered a new musical path to follow, so come out and check out her new sound!

Performing at his first :CODE, jaswho? intends to rip up some live and funky beats. And, our new :CODE resident Praxis will be performing an opening DJ set.

When DJ T-1000 was asked about Adam's recent techno releases, his response was simply "Damn!"
"Rollicking heavy slice of minimalistic tribal techno gear from this increasingly impressive producer. Adam has recently been seen on Zync, Placktown Sounds, Azure and Primevil - his debut on Primate really shines. Top stuff." - Substrata

Akida & JoLynn are two troublemakers from South Florida who have recent broken into New York's underground laptop music scene. They bring their East Coast flair to :CODE on this special night. Their superb sets bridge many forms of electronic/urban music into a comprehensive format. Thanks to GDAM software, these cats are able to manipulate and scratch lyrics in real-time! Come see Akida & JoLynn change how ghetto tech and hip-hop is interpreted.

"[Dragn'fly and Amber] are the sickest all female 2x4 duo we've ever witnessed and we're sure you will think so too after they are done with you! Put on your most comfy dancing shoes and find your dancefloor space and get ready to be rocked!!" - NorthwestTekno

Subvert Recordings is the un-disciplined creation of A.D., appearing only at :CODE during this West Coast visit. A.D. spent a mischievous youth putting on and playing parties in all four corners of Europe with the total resistance sound system. After numerous projects on popular labels Stay Up Forever, Cluster and Infected, the decision was made to start Subvert as a release for his various frustrations and ideas.

Hypnotic female vocals paired with killer original beats make Dusty Brown and his vocalist a memorable performance, on par with the sounds of Massive Attack, Olive, or Hooverphonic.

In 2002, Cat-5 was voted "Best Local Electronic Band" in the popular SF Bay Gudardian Best of the Bay poll. "... Cat-5 have become a Bay Area staple and have endeared themselves to our readers and their CPUs. Playing on laptops, they combine indie rock sounds with electronic beats." - SF Bay Guardian

Classically trained in violin, Kenji Williams (ABA Structure) has emerged as a top Bay Area electronic producer, leading the trancey, progressive house current. - Epitonic Music

ABA Structure has released several EPs, including tracks on John Digweed's "Bedrock" compilation, and the latest release on Plastic City Americas. Several projects with the "Eclipse" (Flying Rhino) project has showcased ABA's downtempo work, already releasing three tracks.

Tying all of Cousing Isaac's performances together is his human beatbox. Making drum sounds with his mouth, Cousin Isaac samples himself using a loopoing sampler, and then adds music and other sound elements.

This night, :CODE brings you a very special event, with some amazing live acts from both San Francisco and the UK: Halou and the Dexorcist. This is a special event, with a $12 admission all night.

About Halou...

"Forget all the constraints that electronic music has unwittingly put on you, and pop this CD in." - BPM Culture magazine

Performing at 10pm, San Francisco-based Halou continue to craft their unique sound with a brand new EP, with a west coast tour to celebrate it's release! This EP follow up to the widely critically acclaimed album 'Wiser' (Nettwerk Records) will only be available at the live shows! The new EP will contain 5 songs: 3 new tracks from the forthcoming album, 1 remix from 'Wiser', plus an exclusive track. These special live shows will feature gorgeous new visuals from SF-based independent film maker Stephen Williams (Blasthaus, BOLT) which are sync'd to the music.

The sound of Halou is a riveting juxtaposition of electronic and organic. While still embracing electronics as the core of their sound, Halou performs their cinematic, downtempo soundscapes completely LIVE including Halou's string section, live drums, guitar, and synths. The EP picks up where Halou left off on 'Wiser', but takes their trademark production even further. The release is once again completely self produced by drummer/producer Count (Blackalicious, New Order, Lyrics Born), writer/keyboardist/producer Ryan Coseboom, and vocalist Rebecca Coseboom.

Also, :CODE resident, Amber, will be opening up the night with her eclectic selection of downtempo and breakbeats.

About the Dexorcist...

Simon Brown, AKA Dexorcist, has been tearing up soundwaves for the past few years. He has been a major part in defining and guiding the current resurgence of the illectro and electro genres, with a long series of releases on labels like Control Tower Records and SMB. For his debut San Francisco appearance, he's bringing a live rig and his discinct, complex and insane rythms and stabbing synth lines.

Also playing, :CODE resident Shane and Muti Music's Sukeban represent the cutting edge talent of San Francisco's growing breaks scene.

Robots will always reign supreme...

Oakland-based long-time underground favorite Deepfatfried take the stage with original electronic compositions combining nu school breaks, drum & bass, dub delays, hip-hop and infinitely deep bass. Deepfatfried is featured in "The Diet Strychnine Sampler" on Diet Strychnine Records. This new mix CD and other Diet Strychnine merchandise will be available throughout the night, along with some great giveaways!

"Smashing boundaries, Deepfatfried and posse twist vocals with beats, breaks and intelligent transmissions to create a journey through the circuit of an electronic skitzoid, from the DnB of 'Green Light' to the jackin groove of 'Forgiveness' it takes you up to the shining skies and down to the gritty urban funk. For the dancefloor or the driving mind it's nothing but fuel." - Ms.E, Future Breaks FM

Returning :CODE heroes Cybrid take the stage once again with some of the most polished and bassy electro to be born and raised on the streets of San Francisco. "At a Cybrid show, you can expect hours of non-stop butt-shaking bass, chunky beats and vocoder raps" - XLR8R Magazine

Onstage bringing his original live techno to :CODE is Omniscient Records label owner Praxis. The style of music he makes varies immensely from hard, dark techno, to funky tech-house, to acid tech-trance, to hard breaks--but your one safe bet is that you'll be dancing and drawn in by Praxis' charismatic performance. You'll see nearly his full studio onstage, a virtual "command center" of equipment, all being triggered live and on the fly by a true musician.

Praxis' original releases on Omniscient also feature remixes by internationally recognized artists like D.A.V.E. the Drummer and DDR. His infatuation with techno led him to write for Lotus magazine, and his expertise has been published as a review writer for DMA dance and BPM Culture.

The tremendously popular "four-turntable-and-two-DJs-at-once" music of Amber versus Dragn'fly drops onto :CODE once again. Expect a repeat of the 2.5 hour sweat-fest from their January performance. And, diving further in to techno-land, :CODE resident Shane will explore funky and glitchy SF-flavored minimal techno and tech-house.

Bass Kittens & Single Cell Orchestra headline the night by partnering to perform a frenzy of live breakbeats onstage. Independently, these two artists have dozens of record releases to their credit (including tracks on Astralwerks, Pretension, and Eyephunk), and together they are better than the sum of their parts.

"[Single Cell Orchestra] uses sweeping strings and catchy melodies which are strongly supported by his dense hypnotic rhythms. His tracks have been compared to both The Orb and The Future Sound Of London." -epitonic.com (Click to hear a sample)

In 1993, JSD started the Bass Kittens. A string of 12" singles followed, along with the full-length CD "Sweaty Planet". In 2000 he started Pretension Records with J Bondy & Justin Maxwell, with the aim of pushing West Coast electro.

Two Sacramento Central Valley heroes invade San Francisco. Dragn'fly's popularity as a techno and trance DJ took off to unlimited hights only shortly after she began as a DJ in the late 90s. Dragn'fly plays sets at parties from New Orleans to Seattle and still finds time to make the locals dance.

DJ Pat is "America's first and only Wet & Hard DJ." According to Pat, "Wet & Hard" is a whole new genre of electronic music, a breed of post-techno techno, born in the clubs of Eastern Europe. He is unleashing this new sound on the states with the help of friends like Hungary's Corvin Dalek (who actually began this whole movement with his seminal masterpiece "Pounds And Penz"), Jan Kessler, Eiven Major, and Oliver Klien.

Opening the night is CODE resident DJ Shane stepping to the wholebeat side of the fence. Closing the night is CODE resident DJ Amber proving, once again, that her monkey screams louder than your monkey.

Yes, it's that time again: the almost-legendary, second annual DNA Lounge Halloween party!

Some say that Halloween is every day, but some days are more Halloween than others. As this Thursday is one of those days, we're breaking with the customary CODE fare and bringing you the Gothic classics in the main room, along with some fantastically odd live performances, and a costume contest that, if last year's contest is any indication, will be quite the event to see! In the lounge, some of our CODE residents will bring you the most evil electronic music they can muster.

And, in a similar... vein... may we draw your attention to October 28th, the monday just before Halloween, when DNA Lounge presents live performances by Thrill Kill Kult with Cherrie Blue and Voodou!

Check out the drumming techno set Richard has in mind especially for this night at n:CODE.

We also welcome a special guest from Eugene, Oregon, DJ Jade Bassix. Jade is a versitile DJ and on this night she'll share her solid mixing style flavored with that Lekebusch-Mills-Beyer taste o' techno.

Opening up the night is one of San Francisco's biggest fans of techno and a member of the Pro Techno Agenda (PTA), m.path. Closing DJ is CODE resident Amber with her trademark sound that makes you wonder, "how could someone who smiles so much play music that's so angry?" She's not telling.

There are many talented people in the world of electronic music but very few true pioneers. Adam Freeland is one of those few. As the undisputed leader of the nu-school breaks movement that has swept Europe and is now hitting the States. Breaking from the confines of 4/4 dance music, Adam is the leading force behind the funktified bass lines and twisted synths that define the genre, which pulls its inspiration from house, dancehall, breaks, hip hop, jungle, and progressive.
